Decoding your MBTI Results

The power of personality cannot be overestimated. Our personality can drive what and how we think, how we respond in situations, the type of work we like we do, how we communicate with others, and what we find most irritating or confusing about others.

In the workplace, personality differences can lead to misunderstandings, lack of trust, conflict, and burnout. Unlocking these personality insights can lead to enhanced self-awareness, relationships, job satisfaction, and effectiveness.

Your MBTI® journey begins here. This foundational workshop introduces participants to the Myers-Briggs Type Indicator® (MBTI) framework, a globally recognized tool for understanding personality preferences. This workshop is the critical first step in a series of workshops that will enhance your self-awareness, communication and collaboration skills, and team dynamics.

In this first workshop, participants gain clarity and confidence in their MBTI® results, equipping them to better apply and build on this foundation with follow-on topics.

In this workshop, participants will:

  • Identify personal strengths and potential blind spots
  • Recognize the unique characteristics of different personality styles
  • Learn adaptive tips to enhance collaboration with others

Conflict is an inevitable part of any workplace, but when mismanaged, the negative effects of conflict can be staggering.

The Workplace Peace Institute found that conflict costs organizations an average of 2 hours of productivity per week, per employee, or roughly a $3.2k+ loss per employee each year. In other words, teams of 25 members are losing an average of $80,000 each year to mismanaged conflict. Employee wellbeing is also affected, with 53% of employees saying they feel stressed due to workplace conflict.

But well-handled conflict can lead to increased trust within teams. Understanding how personality influences conflict resolution can transform challenges and breakdowns into opportunities for growth.

In this workshop, participants will:

  • Gain clarity on your conflict resolution style

Change is a constant in today’s dynamic work environment, but change comes at a cost. According to a survey by Visier, 72% of employees are either actively looking for a new job or open to shifting companies due to overwhelming “change fatigue” at work.

Does this mean organizations should never change? No, of course not! But it does mean that whether you are leading others through change or are part of a team undergoing change, you can be more intentional about how you work through change.

Understanding how personality influences our response to change can be key to successful adaptation. With insight into the psychology of change, individuals and teams can reduce challenges and breakdowns and enhance the way that they navigate through organizational change.

In this workshop, participants will:

  • Uncover how personality profiles influence approaches to change
  • Identify personal strengths and potential blind spots in approaching change
  • Recognize the unique characteristics of different change styles
  • Learn adaptive skills to enhance your approach to change
  • Gain actionable insights for more effectively working through change

Few skills are as important as our ability to make sound decisions. Standing in our way are many visible factors such as lack of time, competing priorities, and differing opinions. While these are hard to reconcile, another less recognizable factor affects our decisions and it lies in the default way we tend to approach decision-making based on our personality type.

But with insight into decision-making styles, individuals and teams can reduce decision distress and enhance their decisions. Understanding how personality influences our go-to decision-making style can significantly enhance our decision-making capabilities and opportunities for growth.

 In this workshop, participants will:

  • Uncover how personality profiles influence approaches to decision making
  • Identify personal strengths and potential blind spots in your decision-making approach
  • Recognize the unique characteristics of different decision-making styles
  • Learn adaptive skills to enhance your approach to decision making
  • Gain actionable insights for more effectively making decisions

Testimonials

What do Clients Say?

The MBTI workshop really helped me understand my personality in a way I hadn’t thought of it before. I learned how my personality can react to certain situations and now I can think about my reactions as they are happening.

We took the first MBTI course and, later, came back to learn more through a follow-on on communicating more effectively. For me, the second workshop just really brought things to life and helped me better see how my personality affects my day to day. Next, I’d love to follow-up on other topics like conflict and how we can improve our team’s decision-making when we’re deciding together.

The workshop was great. Our facilitator helped us open up to each other and really share where our team communication is working well for us and where we need to consider each other’s different styles to help everyone out. I don’t think we would’ve figured some of this out as quickly without the workshop.

Myers Briggs (MBTI) FAQ

The “MBTI®” refers to the Myers-Briggs Type Indicator®, the world’s most popular personality type assessment. It uses the Myers-Briggs® framework to define 16 four-letter personality types.

The MBTI® assessment is a powerful and multipurpose personality assessment that provides a common language for understanding personality differences, personal motivations, and group interactions.

The MBTI® assessment looks at our personality preferences on four pairs of preferences:

  • Extraversion–Introversion (E–I): Do you prefer to get your energy from, and focus your attention on, the outside world of people and things (E) or your inner world of thoughts, feelings, and reflections (I)?
  • Sensing–Intuition (S–N): Do you prefer to gather and trust information that is realistic, concrete, practical, and gathered by your five senses (S) or information based on connections, possibilities, ideas, and what could be (N)?
  • Thinking–Feeling (T–F): Do you prefer to make decisions on the basis of objective logic (T) or on how the decision will affect people and whether it agrees with your values (F)?
  • Judging–Perceiving (J–P): Do you prefer to live your life in an ordered, structured way, seeking closure (J) or in an emergent, spontaneous way, keeping your options open (P)?

According to Jung-Myers theory, we each have a preference for E or I, S or N, T or F, and J or P.

The Myers-Briggs Company reports that 88% of Fortune 500 companies have used the MBTI® Assessment. It is used in 115 countries worldwide. It is also backed by 70+ years of research and development, making it a proven choice for your team or organization.

The MBTI® tool is a versatile personality assessment that provides a common language for understanding personality differences, personal motivations, and group interactions.

Even when individuals have taken the MBTI®, it may be useful for them to retake the MBTI® assessment and have a quality debrief and interpretation session with a certified practitioner. It is not uncommon for the debrief and interpretation session to surface a more complete response from the participant, helping them better estimate and validate their own results.

Reliability refers to the consistency of a measure, both in terms of how well the questions within it align with each other (internal consistency reliability) and how stable the results remain over time (test-retest reliability). For psychometric assessments, a general benchmark for internal consistency reliability is a score of .70 or higher. The MBTI® assessment exceeds this standard, with internal consistency reliabilities for its four preference scales averaging around .90 and test-retest correlations above .80 for intervals of up to 15 weeks. In summary, the MBTI® assessment demonstrates strong reliability.

Additionally, substantial evidence supports its validity, as documented in four editions of the MBTI® manual (1962, 1985, 1998, 2018) and various technical supplements. The most comprehensive review of validity evidence for the MBTI Step I™ and Step II™ assessments is presented in chapters 9 and 10 of the MBTI® Manual for the Global Step I™ and Step II™ Assessments (Myers, McCaulley, Quenk, & Hammer, 2018).
